Hi,

I just did a related search on the home page of one of my secondary sites. I was delighted to find in the list is google.co.uk so I thought I'd do a root around to see if I could find out why since the site has absolutely zip to do with search.

On a page with a few links and descriptions I have Try searching for "secondary widgets" at Google. The href I'm using is [google.co.uk....]

Anyone else seen this?

Cheers

Sid

Not with Google - but in general, yes, I have seen some rather loose associations made for "related to" results.

How nice it would be if the "related to" for google.co.uk included your site, eh?

Hi Tedster,

If only it worked like that.

I was hoping to stimulate a discussion about whether being related to a site was beneficial for rankings, what causes a site to be related, can this be manipulated etc.

But it seems that no one wants to play.

Cheers

What is likely to happen is the related site may get picked up on the periphery of other related lists and SERPs. So, yes, it does have value if you're after that type if traffic.

I'd like to know, too :)

"Related" seems to be to do with sites which are linked from the same pages as your site. This is why you should see competitors there.

Hissingsid - what type of site are you running?

AFAIK it used to be solely linkage based though these days they seem to include topic relevant but unlinked pages.
