Getting maximum power for links to friendly sites?

Hi. I have some domains and want to link some other domains which should get as much "power" from these links for the ranking as possible. The domains do not share the same topics.

How would you place these links on your own domains, but still make them not look like link-farmes? I can imaging some possibilities like:

- Create some linkpages with 5-8 external links on it with text around. Link those linkpages internally from every page of the domain. So you have:
main page (and every other page) -> linkpage (with 5-8 external links)

- Create a "parent"-page which links to 5-8 linkpages. Every linkpage has only one external link with some text arround it. The "parent"-page is linked internally from every page of the domain. So you have:
main page (and every other page) -> parent-page (which links to 5-8 linkpages) -> linkpage (with 1 external link)

- ... other ideas?

Which one would you choose?

you should only link to sites that are on your topic.

Yes you should, but sometimes you want to help a friend which doesn't have a site on your topic. So whats best todo?

sometimes you want to help a friend which doesn't have a site on your topic.

Buy them a cheese burger. :)

Seriously, the best way to help someone like this is not to link to them, but help them develop some good content so they obtain natural links on their own.
