Each year we plan for a drop of traffic around Easter and the corresponding school holidays. But this year it was big - 45% down , and it's only partially recovered to 30% down since March 17.

Initially i panicked, but i noticed all our search terms were stable. Then I checked Google trends , and sure , things were lower this year on trends than last year.

Not that we pay much attention to other search engines as they are a tiny proportion of business, but they also followed suit.

Then i went to a couple of key business intelligence areas and discovered that they to were down by similar amounts across the UK where they depended on Google search . In fact it seemed to extend into the US/Canada , but Europe is more stable.

But what's different about this traffic drop ? Is it the 1 in 100 years [ so i've heard ] seperation of Easter from the April school hols. Is it market driven , are things getting tougher in the US / UK , or is it a Google thing I've missed.

We experienced the same. Traffic seems to be back to normal yesterday (Monday)
