Hacked and penalized for hidden links - will Google forgive?

I have a long established site that was well ranked in Google until last week then it dropped several places and then this week disappeared. I checked the index page and found that someone had hacked into my site and place a large amount of hidden links at the bottom of several pages. My question is: Will Google re index the offending pages when they see the links are gone?

Thanks
Jim

If the penalty already hit you, you may need to do a full clean-up and then file a reconsideration request. In that request, you will need to explain the steps you've taken to guard against future hacking - so be sure to patch up the security holes that allowed the hack to happen.
