Duplicate content problem across two domains

I made a separate site for a client that is hosted on the current site with a 301 direct and the location masked. The client is insisting that they can't find it by typing the domain name into Google (the only way they will go to it.)

There were some photo galleries that were on the original site that I copied over, but I can't think why it wouldn't show up in the Google search at all.

Is there anything else I could do or will it fix itself once I link to the original photo galleries from the current site (the only content that is the same as the current site.)

Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand the situation - is this it? Your client bought a new domain name. That domain name 301 redirects to content pages on a different, more established website. Is that the situation?

If so, this is not a penalty. Google does not show the source url of a 301 redirect, only the target.

I purchased the domain name on behalf of the client. The site is hosted on a sub-directory of the current site with the domain pointing to it.

By "pointing to it" do you mean that a request for newdomain.com/page.html receives a 301 redirect to oldomain.com/directory/page.html? If so, then newdomain.com will not be in the Google index.

Yes, I thought I could save on hosting space by hosting the site on the site I have already. Looks like I will have to buy another hosting account.
