Hi,

I am looking for some help. I just looked up the cached page on a google search and it looks like nothing I have seen before.

All I get is this

<input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE" value="/wEPDwUJNzYzMzg3MDc5D2QWAmYPZBYCAgEPZBYIAgEPZBYCAgEPZBYCZg9kFhACAQ8WAh

Can anyone let me know what is going wrong. I am scared this affes our ranking?

Thanks
Jax

Welcom to the forums. It looks like the Google cache is choking on a .NET viewstate parameter. If you View Source for your page, you'll probably see something quite like this, although the actual sequence of characters will be different everytime the page is viewed.

The cache page itself is stored on a different server at Google, and it is not the data that Google uses directly to rank your urls, so look to your traffic and your rankings for any signs of trouble.

However, this could point to some kind of error in either your code or your server settings. I'd check things out closely, use a validator and a server header checker to make sure your page is being served as you intended.

And by the way, that parameter can be reined in to much saner length - check in with our IIS, .NET and ASP forum for help with that.

Thanks for the welcome and replying so fast. I am afraid I am not much of a techie. Our site is built using a content management tool. Is there something I can do with the content I have on the site or is this something that the provider needs to deal with. There does seem to be an issue with cached pages site wide in that google does not seem to be caching the main content part of the page. All I seem to get is the left and right columns and the header. I have little control over what happen in these areas. It is as if google is ignoring the main part of the web page.
