I threw together a wesite for an organization. The site has been up for a couple of months and the event is next month.

I've followed suggestions of keyword content in the text and going to google to get the site verified as well as using their tools to check the site. Well, sure enough the site worked its way up to about second when you searched the event name. The original event page they had, which is nothing more than a simple page within another site stayed first, it had been around for a few years.

Well, as of three days ago the site does not show up at all on google using the event name for the search. All other search engines I've tried it is first or second.

There has been no changes to the site outside of adding and deleting sponsor links.

What would cause this? I'm completely frustrated and this thing is happening in a month.

Have you gotten any inbound links to the new site from sources independent of the other site that is ranking?

PS - I should add to the above that if you haven't gotten any "independent" links, you should.

Another question I would ask is: how different is the content on the new site from what's on the original event page?

Yes, there are sites that are linked to mine.

The original page was just a title, a picture, a brief description, and two links for registration for the event:
-One to a website which provides registration and fee collection services to events such bike rides, marathons triathlons etc.,
-One link a mail-in registration file.

It also had a few more links to websites of organizations which were responsible for orginizing the event.

The new site is dynamic, has a gallery, has a sponsors page, a registration page and a forum, as well as admin capabilities.

The organizations putting together the event have since updated their sites to point to mine regarding the event.

The afore mentioned registration, fee collection website points to my site as well if you find the event there.

I've used the Google tools to see my page stats and the only issue they mentioned was that some of the pages have the same title. I have since changed that.

This is really making me a little nuts.
