Different IP addresses for Domain and Subdomain

Hi all,

How does Google treat a domain & sub domain hosted on two different IP address? Does it treat two different sites or a single site - SEO point of view?

I've got this situation on several domains, and on other domains the subdomains have the same IP address. There's no difference in the treatment that I've ever noticed. In both cases, the treatment falls into that gray area - something like different domains and yet, in some ways not.

We had a good discussion about this in November, at the same time that Google tweakedtheir handling of subdomains a little bit - much less than we originally thought in the thread, by the way:
