Home Page rankings suddenly dropped by several pages

Hi,

For the last year I have had my keywords on the first page but yesterday all of a sudden all of them dropped either 2/3/4 pages down.

Whats weird is its all the rankings that lead to my main page, my internal page rankings are exactly the same and on the first page.

Anyone had this happen? If so any guesses as to reasons? Will they come back up?

I havent done anything differently to my site, I'm not a newbie to seo so have thought about it a lot and I've been doing everything the same.

I'm really bummed about it as I have been living off this site, and if it stays the same means I am gonna be a bit messed as I wont be able to afford my bills/rent so will have to move back home.

I know its kinda silly to rely on Google but it was doing so well.

Google does have the ability to penalize one page out of an entire site. They also have the ability to develop a bug in their rankings.

It can be hard to know which is which, but if you know of anything at all "borderline" you have been doing, you could remedy that and then do a reconsideration request. You may find some useful ideas about various penalties in our Hot Topics area [webmasterworld.com], which is always pinned to the top of this forum's index page.

I am pretty sure I havent done anything wrong, I have been penalized before for something on another site and my whole site got penalized, this time its just the main page.

Only thing I can think of MAYBE is I done 5 link exchanges recently and it had the same anchor text, could that be it? Seems weird tho.
