one way links vs two way links

If a decent website links to you (oh happy day), would your ranking be helped more if you don't link back to that site? Or does it not make a difference?

I read on someone's SEO site that one-way links were more valuable than two-way links. I ask because when I notice that a site has linked to my site, I will sometimes put that URL (the one where they link to my site) on my Resources page, for no real reason other than an FYI. Would it help my site's ranking more if I didn't do that?

Thanks!

I've never had any issues and I do the exact same thing as you. I look at my referrers regularly and if I see someone linking to me, I investigate why. Sometimes I'll find that they are a quality resource and will add their link naturally where it belongs. ;)

There will always be reciprocation to some degree, it is a given. Its when you start to "overdo" it when it becomes a concern.

I think Google looks for natural linking patterns, so some reciprocal linking to related sites is normal.
