My short term goal for this site is not generating revenue; but popularity! I already have a full time and part time job and don’t really depend on the 2 cents I make from my other websites! So I rather make sure the website gets a decent amount of traffic through Google before I monetize it! This way, I will focus more on providing my visitors with good content rather than focusing on how to make 2 to increase to 3 cents! Also, I will get more back links and hopefully more traffic in the near future!
In short, I outsourced the design and now have a simple, professional, well design & coded website! I am thinking of publishing it next week but without ads! I figured webmasters and web loggers tend to link more to non-profit site or websites with no or very few ads!
I am planning to only place one .gif banner on the website, advertising the website itself, to make it easy for bloggers to get the idea and hint on using my banner, hyper linking and also linking to it! (for the ones who cant upload images & files on free server websites)
Do you think it sounds like a good idea? Do you think I will get much more back links if I don’t put ads for a while (at least a year?) or should I enjoy the small earning for the year and hope I will get enough backlinks regardless of putting ads or not? How long do you think I should update the site with out ads?
Need advice and suggestions!

Ad or no ad doesnt make big different, don't be ad-focused in the initial phase, focus on the service that you want to provide.
