Have you been having any server trouble with your website, tony_tran? This kind of thing can happen if googlebot tries to spider your home page and there's an error.

You are really talking about indexing here, not caching. Does the page show up when you search for site:example.com? If it does, then it has been indexed.

So then the issue becomes the loss of rankings. That kind of on-again off-again ranking for the home page is something several members here are reporting. I can't imagine how anything in .htaccess would affect it. But new links pointing to the the page from other domains can help re-establish spidering and indexing on a new, stable path.

Do you have a Webmaster Tools account? That's the first place I would look for a report from Google about any spidering troubles they might be having. Beyond that, it's build and market your site, make it great, and Google usually gets it straight eventually. The fact that other pages on the same domain are still ranking is a very good sign that this is only a temporary bug.

One last thought - have you checked every page in the search results, even down to the last one? If you discover your page towards the very end, then you may have what we've been calling the -950 penalty. There's a summary thread describing that in the Hot Topics area [webmasterworld.com], which is always pinned to the top of this forum's index page.

Maybe you should 301 redirect index.htm to / as that might be the problem? Maybe it's a dupe issue for that page?
