This is the first time they have removed date from all results, even CNN and other big sites don't show a fresh tag any more.

I'm seeing it on 209.85.135.104

I stopped noticing the fresh date tag months ago. I assumed then that it has been removed permanently. I guess some still see it?

They have been testing things, 'Cached - Similar Pages - Note this' have also been removed, but they are back again.

Rather than "removed and then replaced", it is more likely that certain datacentres have it and others do not.
