Will Link Partners Look Like Paid Links?

I have a penalty on my site and I am not sure why. I run a resource directory so my site is filled with links. I don't run paid links ever. However, I do have partners (as most webmasters do) and I also run about 8 sites. I do not want to place a nofollow on my partners links or on my own links. But I am nervous that Google will think that these links are paid links. How do you guys make sure that Google Knows that your non-nofollow links aren't paid links.

This is literally what it has come down to. I sincerely hope there are in fact Google representatives that peruse this forum. You have created and disseminated so much disinformation and scare tactics relative to the issue if links, that now we are at a point where this question is actually relevant.

The answer to the question is you can’t. Unfortunately, the only people benefiting from Googles war on paid links are the guys purchasing the links. Their ranking higher than ever, because everybody else is scaling back their linking due to the fear of being tagged as a link buyer!

Sounds like a fair amount of cross-linking, there'd be some reason for nervousness even without the paid links factor....

I second that, links as commodity have increased in value than ever before, google's efforts towards reciprocals that are on topic was the worst idea in my opinion, since that has made the link building extremely difficult and most people are not innovative so they take the paid link route.

If your own sites aren't related by topic or theme I wouldn't interlink them...too much that is. If all 8 sites are interlinked but not related it could cause you some trouble.

You should be nervous that Google will think you have link partners, which you do.
