I've just installed a custom google search engine and I'm curious about customising it (disable Safesearch? Search box with results?), also why it's index appears to be so small when depending on which data center you ask it appears to have between half and two thirds of my website indexed (I regularly submit complete sitemaps).

All feedback greatly appreciated...

Thanks.

Most of Google's support for the CSE and CSE Business Edition is in this area:
[google.com...] - including their official blog [googlecustomsearch.blogspot.com] and discussion group [groups.google.com].

I don't currently run a CSE, but just poking around I saw references to a checkbox you can shoose to turn "Safe" on and off. Now the issue of getting all your URLs indexed might be a bit more challenging - it certainly is for many website owners who are concerned only with organic search.

I would first try explicitly including the urls that are missing, as explained on this page [google.com]. Apparently this is the #1 FAQ for a Google custom search engine.
