Forgive me if I have missed the boat again but I have noticed distinct differences between Google's homepage in the US and UK versions.

The UK version search window offers the following options ...
Web, Images, News, Maps, Products, Groups, Scholar and more >>

On the US version the layout is different. The additional options are at the extreme top left of the screen away from the search window and they are listed as follows ...
Web, Images, Products, News, Maps, Mail and more.

When I click the "more" option on the UK version the options available are slightly different. Significantly (perhaps) the Google directory is not listed in the US "more" options but it is in the UK.

Is there any reason for this?

There certainly is a different layout on google.co.uk from google.com right now. Who knows what's up with that? It certainly could be a test. It could also be the result of earlier tests and discovering that UK folks respond better to what they now are seeing. I don't know if the public will ever have an explanation.
