I am not sure how new this is, but I am seeing this for the first time. The search categories (images, froogle, etc...) are on the left side vertically, then the SERP, and then ads.

It's been around for a little bit, but only when logged in to your Google account (of some variety or other.) Are you seeing this in the non-personalized results, too?

Yes, I am seeing this while not being logged in, or even having Google cookies of any sort, i.e. G doesn't know I have an account.
