Very bad SERPs - Am I being penalized?

Hi,

a few days ago a new website of mine started showing on google.
The page is still PR0 and i apear on page 8 with my top keywords.
Its a niche site and there is very little competition for the subject of my site.

Now the odd thing.. Other websites that are totally unrelated to my topic and dont use my keywords in there meta tags or title that also have PR0 show on the 1st page of the google search results.

Now what i dont understand is the fact that my website that has the keywords mentioned in metas, topic and various times in the content would score so badly while sites unrelated to my keywords with a PR0 gets listed on the 1st page.

Am i being punished by google for some reason? What reasons could there be that my site would recieve such a bad listing?

Any help would be greatly apriciated!

If it's a new site, this is totally normal.

Build in some diversified, on theme links and make sure your keywords are in the title of the pages and wait ...
