Guys, i have a small question - i have a site with lot`s of articles from other sites - all about one theme. At the beginning of every article there`s link on it`s source, author and prase : "Used with author's permission" - it`s actually so.

Can this cause any problems with google, relating duplicate content? Can this results in low ratings or something else at future - site was online since dec 2005 and have PR5 and link popularity something like 2000+.

It was runned by my partner and i`m wondering could where be any problems if i buy this site from him?

If you take a sentance from an article and use it to search on google, does your site appear? If you also search with the sentance in quotes do you appear? My guess is that all the content of the articles will be labelled as duplicate content and thus ignored for ranking purposes. The links out are a good thing, I wouldn't worry about PR leakage etc. However, only the content on each page which is original and unique will have a good chance of ranking.... and even that content may not rank well if most of the page is duplicate content.

All bar one will be seen as duplicates - and there's no known way of predicting if that copy will be yours or someone elses.

If the text appears on many other sites, then your chances drop dramatically!

Much better for you to go for unique stuff.

Much better for the web, too :)

10x to all of you. But about duplicate content - it seems so easy to drop someone`s PR - just duplicate his content on 100`s pages and that`s all.... there should be something else...

Make sure you have much, much more unique content than the theme articles. It works for the big news source sites without a problem. You may even become a news authority for the subject.

Sure you could.

No guarantee it would work of course.

Then there's the small matter of it being illegal - unlike most web scams, it can easily be proven, and damages would surely follow. Oh, and it can easily be stopped and can get you banned from all decent search engines. Just like that!
