I could really do with some advice from anyone with experience in this area. Here's the problem - recently my image site completely dropped out of google's search results and has shown no signs of returning. This seemed to happen after adding quite a few extra pages that could well have been seen as duplicate pages.
Before I added these pages the site only had a small number of top level pages that were appearing ok in search results. For example say I had one page for car images and one page for boat images. The problem seemed to happen when I expanded categories to have multiple pages. As a simple example car1.html, car2.html, car3.html. Is this likely to be why my site was completely removed from google? By removed I mean it will only appear if i type in my full address.
so my question is what is the best way to handle multiple image pages? At the moment I have several images per page each with unique alt and title tags and also relevant file names. I also have some categories where I have left title and meta tags the same across the sub pages and other categories where I have given each sub page unique title and meta tags - what is the best approach here, make each page as unique as possible or will that be considered over optimization?
sorry for the fairly long explanation, any help is much appreciated!
thanks!

Do the results for site:example.com look reasonable?
yes, the results for site:mysite.com look completely normal and exactly the same as before I completely disappeared from search results. The new pages i added were indexed and then shortly after that is when I disappeared. I dont know if its important but it might be worth mentioning the site is now about 7 months old. Also I read on the forums that you can get penalized for doing a big update. Is this a possibility as I originally had about 10 pages indexed and then went to around 30 in the one update that I did.
