Hi,

I hope this is the right place to ask this.It regards internal links recorded in sitemaps.

I have several websites all in Google sitemaps.

But one website has aprox 1200 internal pages and sitemaps records 200 internal links to about 30 pages.

I presume 200 is the maximum links shown.

But my homepage has always had less than 200, even though every page links to it, with the same link. And every page where the link is counted on other pages also has a link to to the homepage.

So I should always ahve 200 internal links to my homepage.
Recently it has dropped to 125 internal links. Everything else stays at 200.

I know there are no broken links as I have run the relelevant software.
Every other website I have shows the right amount of internal links to me website.

So, has anyone else got any ideas?

Do you have the same issue.
If only 125 internal links out of 1200 pages are being recorded, then clearly this will effect rankings.

You are assuming that Google only records and counts links that they show in their reporting features. This is not the case, and you do not have a "real" problem here, in my opinion. Do not make any changes that are based only on shifts in the backlink reports, whether in your Webmaster Tools account or simply with the link: operator.

For more information, see:

The link: Operator - it's not like other search engines! [webmasterworld.com]

That thread, and many other helpful discussions, can be found in Hot Topics [webmasterworld.com], which is always pinned to the top of this forum's index page.
