Googlebot visiting much less

From the logs, I see that the Google bot visiting much, much less than it use to before deindexing of pages started about 3 weeks ago. At one point, I was down to about 25% of all pages but it is up to aboput 30% now. When the Google bot visited frequently, it had more pages (about 90-95%)indexed than either Yahoo or MSN.

Would getting more relevant high PR links get it to visit more often or has it got to do more with issues at Google (with update)? I wouldn't have thought links would be too much of an issues as I have some good PR links and I am cionstantly building.

How old is the site?

Does it have hyphens in the name?

How many pages are there?

Are the links pointing at your site completely on topic?

Are the links from other authority sites that are on topic?

Do you have dupe content?

Do you have redirects in place?

As you can see there's a few things to consider, as well as Google being a bit naff at the moment, since the introduction of Bigdaddy, and more specifically in the last month its got worse.

There are alot of sites disappearing and reappearing at the mo, dropping pages, allinanchor:, allintext: fluctuations.

So alot of people are having pages being dropped at the moment and the likelyhood is that as long as you dont have dupe content and the links you say you have are on topic and from authority sites, the pages could well come back.

I have noticed that googlebot is visiting less on some sites and the same on others, its site specific as with many things.
