Serving other site's subdomains from our server - any Google problems?

Hi

Like many people we rely on a steady flow of traffic from Google.

Recently we've started offering a new product whereby site owners can sell our service via their site.

The way we're doing this is by the site owner creating a sub-domain on their site and pointing it to our server and I create a home page in the style of their site. Then we handle all the business as usual and pay them commission on all sales. The client doesn't have to do anything other than promote their new site.

So far we've set it up for one site and it's proving quite successful and we'd like to start pushing it more.

My question is: If we have a lot of new sites pointing to our server (but not linking directly to our site anywhere) will Google take offense at this?

Thanks

Mick

I've been turning your rather clever idea over for a while - and I can't see any problem for your core domain with it. Of course, make sure the files for each client subdomain are not accessible via any other url than the intended subdomain. You might also consider serving all the subdomains on a different IP than the one you use for your core domain.

Of course, each of your clients will need to cope with the content you provide for their subdomain, so watch out for tripping duplicate filters. That's about all I can come up with right now. Maybe someone elase can see something I'm missing.

Thanks for that tedster.

I do have our first affiliate (I hate that word now) on a different IP address to our main site.

The way we're currently handling it there is no actual content only their home page on our server that they designed and I updated to load countries/locations into a form for the customer to select from. I assume Google goes no further than this page (i.e. Google doesn't select Ireland, then Belfast, then start date etc. and 'click's the submit button).

All the pages on the customers sub domain on our server only point to other pages on the same site. The database is common however.

We're not trying to trick Google, just trying to get more business without jepordising our core business.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks

Mick
