Ok so I am a long time lurker first (maybe second) time poster. I am really stuck and in dire need of the support of the huge SEO brains in this forum.
I have recently updated my site and created new pages to sell different widgets. Some of my pages are cached, but have not been updated since July, a lot has changed since then! I then have a whole load of new pages which have not been cached at all. They have been online for around a month or so now.
These pages are about two directory levels deep (www.widgets.com/widget1/widget2/widget.htm) and all the pages are present and correct in my sitemap.xml.
My first level pages get re-cached pretty frequently, index.htm was last updated on the 10th of this month, but for some reason Google will not even touch the new pages at the deeper level. They are all linked from the first level pages, I can see no technical reason for this problem and I have even been through my robots.txt to make sure I didn't restrict the URLs in a fit of madness.
My site is totally white hat throughout, and Google really seems to like it, placing me top 3 for a fair few key search terms, I am hugely confused by it's refusal to cache my new, also white hat, content.
Help would be massively appreciated. Thanks.

Hello n00j, and welcome to the forums.

The only thing I can tell you is that many, many sites are currently noticing old cache dates reaching back to July and August, even though they can see much more recent spidering in their server logs. In some cases, searches will return results based on the more recent content, even though that content is not showing in the cached version of the page.

I don't know of anything specific a webmaster can do to encourgage a change - it seems like something Google is doing intentionally for the moment. I am assuming that it's temporary.

Hmm ok, I had seen this in some other posts, so I guess it is just a case of waiting it out. Its really annoying that my brand new content rich and (hopefully) high serp ranking pages have not even been cached. Thanks for the help, I will report any changes as they happen.

Very interesting question.
2 tricks - one block engines in the future with a noarchive meta
and the other thing PING, IE.. make hits on your page using a proxy and your google cache will update faster. Use Opera with a refresh every 18 minutes.
