Multiple backlinks from the same site

What is the effect of more than one link from the same site?

This is a question regarding the effects of multiple links to your site from one other site, and how Google views them. For the purposes of this thread imagine a reasonably well ranked blog with some articles from you, plus a few natural links from the blog owner - or something along those lines.

Here's the basic idea:

1) You get 10 backlinks on 10 different pages from a site that has thousand of pages
2) The links are natural i.e. we're not talking about buying site-wide links etc

10 Times the Effect?

Does Google count the backlinks as equal i.e. 10 links means 10 times the effect? Or does backlink 1 count for the most, backlink 2 slightly less, and so on? Or does the whole thing count as a single backlink?

Different Landing Pages

The second part is to do with the target page for your backlinks. Is there a different effect with the following options:

1) All the backlinks point to one page, e.g. your homepage
2) The links point to various parts of your site, each deeper link relevant to the context of the backlink

Any insight into the above would be appreciated.
