Hi,

We have links from a site, but that site is hosted in a server which hosts eleven thousands of sites.

Will such links help our ranking or hurt our ranking in google?

Thanks.

Why do you think that the number of sites hosted on a server would make a difference?

The majority of websites are hosted in s shared environment, as opposed to being hosting on a dedicated server. Sometimes they'll share the same IP address - and sometimes each site will have a dedicated IP - depending on the host's offerings.

Now... if those 11,000 sites are owned by the same company or person, and/or they have engaged in some kind of cross linking, then that may have a negative impact on the "value" of links from that server or network of sites.

In summation, a link from a site in that cluster should be valued irrespective of the number of sites in said cluster, unless there is more to the story!

Doesn't matter what else is on the server if they have seperate domains - but if you don't like the site linking to you, simply disallow traffic from that site in your .htaccess

As so many sites hosted in the same server, if some other sites are spammy sites then will this affect the effect of the links from good sites in the same server?

Thanks.

Specifics needed: Inbound links to the website in question (your website) FROM the other sites on the same server - or Outbound links from the website in question TO the other sites on the same server - and furthermore - is your website also located on the server which hosts those 11000 other websites?..

But to give you a short answer based on how I would personally go about it, no matter what the specifics were:

Do you have the ability to remove the links from the websites on the server which are linking to your website? If you don't - it doesn't matter, because the links will still be there no matter what you think about it - If you do have the ability to remove the links and you are in doubt - then remove them and stop thinking about it.

Again... always phrase your question with some specifics about your own websites position - so it doesn't get too confusing... because the answer depends on those pesky details -
