Does PageRank spread throughout the pages?

one of my websites had a 5 PR on the homepage. The rest of the pages were indexed but showed no PR.

Recently I noticed all pages have PR 2 and the homepage now has PR 3.

Has that happened to anyone else? Any explanations?

(I am aware some people think the Google Toolbar (PR) is useless, but I'm not asking that, so lets please focus on why the front page was ranked 5 and now it has spread among other pages.)

I think their (toolbar - I don't use it) PR is broken at the moment. If your traffic is exactly the same, don't worry.

That's exactly how PR is supposed to work. Your homepage has a PR of 3, and it has passed some PR on to your other pages.

Why has the PR of your homepage dropped from 5 to 3? Maybe you lost an important link, such as a sitewide link, somewhere. It has nothing to do with your other pages gaining PR. In any case, all your PR values are at least 6 months old, because the toolbar hasn't been updated in ages... so don't worry about it too much.
