I suspect that changes in allinanchor when used in Google's web search algo is causing me problems.
I thought I understood exactly what allinanchor was measuring but now I'm not so sure.
So my questions are:
What exactly is allinanchor measuring?
Are all anchors measured equally?
ie is anchor text on the same page pointing to other pages (outbound links) either within the same site or to other sites, anchor on other pages of the site pointing to the page and anchor text on other sites pointing to the page measured equally and all used in the calculation.
Does anchor text from some sites have more weight than other sites? For example is anchor text on Dmoz worth more than anchor text on Bob's blog.
Does anyone else think that allinanchor has changed recently?
Cheers
Sid
The order of results for an allinanchor: query may have changed, but I doubt we can draw dependable and actionable conclusions that would improve our traffic from what we see there in those results. Anchor text is only one component of a very complex algorithm.
Hard to pin down as in the past G has included a number of link related factors apart from anchor text in their calculations, whether these are now discounted or simply masked is anyones' guess.
I use it to help identify possible problems, situation normal there shouldn't be a major difference between allinanchor and "normal" search results, and with the increasing regionalisation an allinanchor search on "Pages from the UK" shows the order in which UK pages will appear in both PFTUK and "web search" results.
Not exactly of course :-) I have pages that appear higher than allinanchor suggests they should, but that's down to those other factors Tedster mentioned.
