Would adding a posting on Craigslist that included a link to my website help in boosting my PR? Craigslist has a PR of 7!

Thx.

<a href="http://www.example.com" rel="nofollow">http://www.example.com</a>

This is their code for an url in one of their pages.
So you can see the NOFOLLOW tag...

The MAIN page of Craigslist has PR, and probably the category and regional pages - but I'd bet the individual postings don't. In theory they wouldn't be around long enough. I just took a cursory look at the Detroit Craigslist, and couldn't find a single post with any Toolbar PR. I think it's unlikely they'd have real PR.

It may not pass PR, but it will get you traffic. We blow out extra stock and returns on craigs and get alot of residual traffic to our main site from it. :)

I have noticed that Yahoo Site Explorer does list a substantial number of craigslist posts as backlinks for some sites I just recently checked.

But they also list tons of Yahoo local results in those backlinks so I'm not sure how much weight they give to them.

Do you ever have postings on CL immediately blocked (just after clicking the "Post It / Submit button") for the reason [Error Message:] "the message contains a URL to a commercial site"?

It's happened to us -- yet I frequently see URL's in CL posts :-p

Or maybe your CL posts are paid ... or?

I did notice that the page listing the ads is spiderable and shows up in the serps. So a highly specific keyphrase -

Golden Yellow super ultra widget city state, might show up using the craigslist listing page in the snippet of a search result. With the end result of the browser finding your site though your well written and informative ad.

just tested it and it works. i picked a random category, then checked the cached version of the page and picked an ad, used the ad title and my city location and boom page 2 results. G was using the snippet.

***

Test 2

highy specifc results in the #1 serps using the G snippet.

Brand name widget city location..
