There are two ways of accessing the product urls on our site. Here are examples of the two URLs.

http://www.example.com/products/show_product.do?pid=3803&productName=keyword+8210+keyword+keyword
and
http://www.example.com/products/show_product.do?pid=3803
does the & and everything after make it a different URL with identical content in Google's eyes, and therefore duplicate content, or does google ignore the & and what comes after?

They are duplicates.

Get your script to test what URL was requested and for it to then add <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> in the <head> section of all the pages that have the longer versions of the URL.

It is vital that the extra copies are kept from being shown in the index.
