Being a little bored today I thought I'd do a little test to compare the search quality for a keyword combination I've been monitoring (and targeting) for some time. It's 4 words: area (3 words) + widgets (4th word). These widgets are non-movable and expensive, so you can't send them by mail or anything, you have to go to the area in order to buy them.
A searcher using this keyword combination will expect to find widgets listed on the websites, so my test is very simple - how many are listed on the first ten sites of the SERP's of each search engine. Here are the results:

.........Google.......Yahoo......MSN

1..............0.........334.......334
2..............0. ..........2.. ......23
3............68.........189........79
4..............0.... .......0.........3
5..............0.... .......0........12
6..............5..........79........68
7..........132............1.........0
8............79............0.........0
9..............1...........1........36
10.............0...........0.........3
-----------------------------------------------
Total.....285.........606.......558

Although Yahoo found the most widgets in total, MSN only listed 2 sites that had no widgets in the area (Yahoo 4, Google 5). Google did not do too well overall.
Only a snapshot and I'm not claiming this is representative in any way (but who knows =)
