for those who know me you will know if I post generally it will be
1) a rant or 2) Something weird
I have had a site that seemingly was penalised for no real reason I could see. It is good unique information on related subject matter.
Now last week I noticed a number 2 by google. Ummmmm ... thats something weird btw :)
My site came back with avengence with the main keywords it had been the authority for for some 5 years previous. Then .. it disappeared again without trace.
Has anyone had anything simliar happen as of recent or am I alone in the dark once again?
We were just like your site, top 10 for all diamond buying keywords, then it sliiped to around the 300+ ranking, even below supplementals.
Then last wednesday, May 17, were were back in top10 and top 20, looking awesome, then Thursday it wa sback to the slums again.
Just like you reported.
The best thing is we sit here checking results everyday and all is is a big fat waste of time. The changes are not stable, permanent or reliable.
I am going to start my own wikipedia though...top 10 every time baby!
Tedster ... Yes I can see what you mean there. If google can swap their algorithms around at the touch of a button then it will have seo's no knowing which way to turn. It could be a good thing i guess but seems to me to be a pain in the bottom really.
I really don't see the point of making sites top then making them rank on page 50 if they are in fact good sites. But hey ... what can you say ... after all goog isn't trying to make the world a better place .. they are only in it for the money now.
As a searcher, it is very frustrating to find a site in the Google index, then not be able to find it again under the same query. You know it's there, you know what it looks like, you just forgot to bookmark it. If the site is worthy of being ranked well once, it should be worthy of being ranked well consistently. Google is just messing with the user.

Maybe not connected directly to what you wrote. Last year I wrote something about "The Rotating Algos" :-)
You may wish to view what I wrote about it:

Rotating Algos search [google.com]
When you guys talk about your websites fluctuating in ranking so heaviliy, do you realize that SOMETIMES if you're signed in under your google account (whether it be gmail, adwords, etc..), sites that you have clicked on in google SERPs more frequently (I.E. your own website), will appear closer to the top in rankings.
It's important to note that I say this happens only SOMETIMES, while signed in under your acconut.. not all the time.
I only ask this because I myself thought my site was heavily fluctuating in ranking. But one day, I realized that the fluctuation completely stops if I make sure that I am not signed into my google account when performing keyword searches for my website.
And when reading people's posts about their how their fluctuating rankings frustrate them to no end.. I feel like they are experiencing what I mentioned above. But their sites are not actually fluctuating in ranking at all, they only appear to be because they're signed in to their google account.
