Is it a problem having too many links on your home page?

Our current site has over 100 links on the home page. It's nicely categorized which makes it very user freindly to order.

Just wondering if Goolge likes it though?

If it's considered a problem, kindly advise how many links would be maximum..

Thank you..

Well, the Home Page for WebmasterWorld has well over 100 links and we're doing pretty well in Google -- so it's not necessarily a bad thing.

This is from the Google Design and content guidelines:

"Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site. If the site map is larger than 100 or so links, you may want to break the site map into separate pages."

I read it as a recommendation to limit the number of links on a page to 100 links. Even though a sitemap is usually internal links, I'd expect it to go for external links as well. It is possible that Google added the 100 links limit for human usability reasons.

Thanks Tedster,

Does Google look at this as a site map, being that it has too many links?
