How do you know if the backlink pointing to your site has a google filter on it?
I am guessing (this is only a guess mind you) if you do a backlink check and only a few backlins appear on google from this site instead of all the backlinks then the links that do not appear are the ones removed by the backlink filtered.
So then if that is the case would it be correct in saying that if all the links appear on google backlink check then these links were accepted by google and not filtered, therefore total credit given to passing Pagerank and backlink count will apply?
If the links were not from a relevant page, then they may not count anyway. If the pages the links were on did not have any PR or good content they may also not be counted. Google will know they are there, just not use them.
Second point
There is also a filter for anchor text going back to your site. If you have too many links with the same text within, again a filter will effect your rankings. i could not understand how the more links i added the worse my rankings until I realised I was using the same keywords to the same page over and over again.
However these are all proportional to what you already have in place.
A site with 100,000 links and has been around for 10 years could probably stand another 1000 added to it in a day.
But a site with say 100 links that ads another 1000 links in one day with the same anchor text will raise the warning flags and probably do more harm than good.
It has been written many times that a few good links form good sites is better than hundreds all from one site.
I have been experimenting with adding banner images to see if the same rules apply not for SEO purposes, more from a business stance with a new site i have bought. But after early good signs, it looks like my ranking are dropping again, so i will take away the banners off 5,000 pages.
