Could Froogle (Google Base) or similar sites create duplicate content issues?

No one is concerned about this? I would think that shopping comparison sites that use your product descriptions could cause problems. No?

Are you seeing this kind of filtering hurting you? I'm not aware of it as a problem.

I'm just trying to root out all possible duplicate contents issues. It sounds like it would cause a problem to me, or does Google take shopping comparisons into account?

If you see a problem, then do what you can to address it - in this case, maybe block the bots from the comparison sites if they aren't sending you converting traffic anyway? But I would caution against getting too theoretical.

Theoretical? I thought duplicate content was as simple as having the same paragraph on two different pages.

I'd say duplicate content is having a ranking problem because the same paragraph is on two different pages. If you rank well, then where's the problem?

So duplicate content checking shouldn't be based on finding paragraphs of mine that are duplicated, but penalties I've been hit with?

When you can see a real penalty *you [probably have other problems too, in that case), or you're filtered out, or just ranking lower than a copycat - that's what I'd worry about. Trying to fight all the duplicates could take all your time, but with no real benefit to your business.
