Hi all,

We have seen many threads on this subject here and its evident it’s a very complex area

I’m working on a site that has some very established pages on it that rank well in the google index. The site is about “Widgets” and has for example pages “Blue Widgets”, “Red Widgets”, “White Widgets” etc etc

These pages detail the “Blue Widget” in its entirety. Meanwhile the site carries loads of data about different “Blue Widgets” all different pages available from a search box. The webmaster wants to create a new “Blue Widgets” page that lists all the “Blue Widget Types”

My concern is two fold:-

1. If the site carries another page that’s also called “Blue Widgets” even though the content is different i.e. the first original page is detailing the widget the second lists the various widgets in the market would this be treated as duplicate? If the anchor link was simply “Blue” as opposed to “Blue Widget” would this help?

2. The new pages would obviously link to a lot of the data in the data base hence creating far more pages in google – Is this likely to trip some other filter because the site has volumes more pages on it. The concern is not that the new pages rank but that the pages that currently rank in Google remain so.

Anyone experience of dealing with this?

Cheers

Two pages with the exact same title isn't going to be a huge problem.

However, the title should represent exactly what the page is about, so "Blue Widgets" doesn't cut it.

I'm sure you can think of a better title using about 5 to 8 words.
