Method of counting outgoing clicks of google organic SERPS

how does g keep track of # of clicks?

Hello All,
I was wondering if any of you could explain to me how G counts the number of clicks on their organic search results. I've tried figuring this out, but I see no obvious javascript, redirect, or anything like that.

Aybody have a clue?

My guess is google analytics and the toolbar.

They have a mousedown event that calls an image to act as a counter.
