Here's the story:

Just purchased a domain from a broker. It is a one word competitive term with a .net extension e.g. "widget.net"

Before i purchased it It was already ranking in the 5th page of results of Google when i was searching for "widgets", but it had no content (just a parking page with ads)

I did add 5 pages of original content related to "widget" and linked from one of my existing site's page about "widgets" which has PR4.

That,s all i did. There was an "under construction" page for 3 days last week end.

This morning.. poof! gone from the index... (site:widget.net shows no results) but still shows a PR1 in the toolbar (!) and shows the broker's site as backlink (!), and "related sites" also showing about 10 results (!).

I have been building and promoting sites for a few years.. but now im quite confused... I paid a hefty price for the domain and now google bans it already... and I sincerely don't think I've done any blackhat stuff there...

any ideas here?

Sounds like a new site syndrome. Since this change just showed up, I'd suggest waiting a few days -- it may well just "fix itself". Remember that Google's datais stored on many, many servers and they are not all in sync all the time, especially with changes on lower PR pages.

If you haven't already done this, I'd also set up a webmaster tools account just for the feedback you can get.

If you don't change all the whois info Google might have no clue that a new owner came to town.

The toolbar is not updated immediately.

As tedster suggested: Wait.

It is very common for Google to drop a page and all rankings and then get it right back into the index. So just relax. Add new content, keep getting good links and it will be OK.
