Does adding code for inline ads affect Google rankings?

I have a site with a ton of article type content and the pages rank extremely well in a very competitive niche. This site generates great revenue. I am wanting to ad in-line text ads to the articles to boost revenue a little more. However, I'm afraid that Google might not like the pages as well with all of the code and code choppiness that will result. Anyone have any experiences with the effect of in-line ads on google rankings, if any?

If the ads are on related topics, they will not harm the content but add to it. If the ads are javascript, then they will be effectively ignored anyway.

I'd have two concerns.

1. If the page content is small, then the ad:editorial ration may look add,as well as being off-putting for readers.

2. You do need to think about Google's paidlink policy, and whether or not it will apply in your case.
