"We can't currently access your home page because of a timeout." - This message is displayed in the Webmaster Tools Summary.

All the other pages for this site return no errors and are listed in Googles main index.

The home page has been removed from Google's index altogheter. I have checked 'site:' command, and the supplementary index. I have checked for unique text on thet page etc. Nothing.

The exact same thing happed to another site of mine some time this weekend (July 28-29th).

This follows on the back of a major spider of both sites 13 days ago.

Site is 4 years old, PR6, white hat etc. I can't believe the home page of both these sites has been banned. I hope that Google is having one of its moments.

Anyone care to comment?

Many people are currently reporting disappearing home pages as well as spidering issues. I assume it is just "one of those moments" for Google, but if so, then it's not a good one.

I assume you have confirmed that there is no problem you can see with your server's response to a request for the home page. Can you see any recent requests from googlebot in your logs?
