I am not clear on how to explain it.
Here is the issue:
For Example, If you type Yahoo in google.com and search we usually find a number at the right side corner thats the number of pages in google related that keyword
SERP --- 542,000,000
If it suddenly went down from 542,000,000 to 42,000,000
then what will be the problem in google is that a update in algorithm?
However, months ago I noticed a change in the number of results Google was claiming to return for phrases related to my site. Where a search for one of my phrases returned 47,000,000 results, Google now shows a bit over 4,000,000 results for that term. My ranking hasn't changed, just the number of results they claim to have in the index.
I'm guessing that Google was either inflating their numbers previously, or that a lot of sites went supplemental for that particular phrase.
