Hello All,

The Situation: Company Website A has taken over Company Website B. Both sites are in the same industry. Company Site B has some really great back links, some from .edus and I want to figure out a way to pass the PR from these back links to Company Site A. I have control over both domains.

Right now there's just a meta tag redirect on Company Site B that redirects to Company Site A. The old company website B which is being taken over must come down.

Can a permanent 301 redirect from the old site which cannot run live anymore pass PR to the new domain?

Thanks,
Devvy

A domain level 301 will pass PR. But the old domain name does need to resolve, of course, even though it then 301 redirects. It just doesn't need any content (which couldn't be seen anyway.)
