We are about to transfer ownership of a domain name that have 5 years of history build on the search engines. I have heard that once a domain name is transfered, Google will reindex your site, restart your history from scratch and kill all your indices. Basically start your domain from scratch. As anyone have any experiences or know the answers. Any assistance will be helpful

thanks

Hello superlu007, and welcome to the forums.

What you describe is what sometimes (usually) happens when a domain name actually expires and then is picked up by a new owner. However, if there is an orderly transfer of ownership and the site content remains online and unchanged during that switch, then there is no bump in the road, in my experience.

thanks tedster.

Our company has just been acquired by another entity. The new owner has request to have a ownership transfer. I want to make sure that this is not going to screw up with our indice. I heard too many horror story and wanting to be extra cautious before we move forward with the domain name transfer

total ownership will change

Registrant, administrative contact and technical contact information will change. The domain server will remain where it is.

...

Meaning... nothing will change, Google-wise.

Unless the new owner is on a watchlist for spam.
