Checking one of my sites to see how many pages Google actually has indexed, I clicked on the 'page 10' link then 'page20' whereupon I got the following 403. Maybe they're running short on bandwidth.:)

"We're sorry...

... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google."

I have found I get this error too when checking a lot of SERPs. If you clear your net cache and try the search again it will be fixed :-)

This sounds like what others have reported when they fell into Google's request-rate-based spider trap. If you were clicking *quickly* through that many pages of results, that's likely the problem.

I believe the recommendation if you need to "go deep" in the SERPs is to set your results-per-page to a higher number, like 100 results per page. That way, result number 101 is on page two, not on page 11.

I think that it is not just click-rate related.

I have a query that returns ~700 results, and always view with 100 results per page.

I cannot get beyond page three, whatever I click; even going directly there from page 1.
