Hello,
Recently, there was major fire in our area which closed a popular resort on an alpine lake. The first thing I did was update my content about the resort to reflect that the road to the resort was closed. I put the notice right at the top of the page and since it's first, and includes the resort's name it became the snippet when people searched for the resorts name. Problem is, even though I updated my site as soon as the resort reopened (2 weeks ago), the snippet still says "__ Resort is currently closed due to the ___ Fire, which has devastated much of ...". The resort owner emailed me last night to ask me if I could fix it. I told him that it should change soon enough. Googlebot visited the page on the 13th (I didn't actually mention Googlebot to him).
Any ideas how long it will take for the snippet to switch back? Any ideas to push it along?

What's the cache date on the page? I had a similar situation last month, with a company that went out of business suddenly and rather unexpectedly. It took about three to four days after Googlebot picked up the new page with a different snippet on it for it to show up in the index.

you can always use the <nosnippet> tag. That should do the trick, i think? :)

It's been updated (and I moved up to #1 for the result).
