I recently added about 30 or so pages, specifically targeted at keyphrases I want traffic from. The pages ranked very well for the targeted phrases almost immediately, then disappeared entirely for a few days, and have now started to return and are ranking OK. Has anyone noticed a similar chronology with their new pages?

As far as my domain, I've been selling widgets from it for about 5 years and Google seems to trust it a bit.

What you describe is pretty normal. A little boost at first, then a ranking that reflects your real position.

Should I expect the pages to stay around the positions they reappears to? No near-term rises or falls generally?

Well, I just noticed that the page I was basing my "ranked medium" stage on is actually a page 2. Not good. The missing pages are still all missing from the index.

What would you guys do in this situation? How much time would you let pass with your new pages gone from the index without thinking something is wrong?

At the beginning of the year I did a site for a band where this happened - all the pages went in initially, and then a week later, the only pages that were there were the home page and the contact page (and they didn't rank at all) Took about three months to get all the pages in. It was a brand new domain.
