We have lots of content on the site and so a popular name such as Derek Jeter will appear in many, many places around the site.
Lots of the pages in our content library are found regularly by the spider, due to the density of player/team keyword combinations. However these pages do not present product offerings, and that is of course what I am looking to do. Any Derek Jeter related search should ideally show the user Derek Jeter merchandise on whatever page he lands on.
My engineer says he can write a script that will see the referrer search string attached to the user when he enters the site and could dynamically modifiy a specific section or table on the web page, probably a long rectangle near the top, and populate that section with product offerings from our database that are related to the player or team pulled from the referrer string.
Would Google be cool with this kind of practice, and if not....any suggestions?
