I have a page that is listed with current cache as most of my site but this exact same page is also listed as supplemental with a cache from Feb 2004.
The page was updated in May 2005 and is cached properly as a normal result.
I cant use the removal tool because I dont want to remove the normal listing.
I changed some text on it and uploaded it again hoping that it will get recrawled but I was wondering if anyone has seen this before.

It's common, and it sucks. There is nothing you can do about it. The new version can get crawled every day, but that won't effect the fact the supplemental version will also be there too.

I have it too. Very puzzling.

right. The crazy thing is that you can get both pages listed in a single search....so google must be seeing them as two different pages....

You can have the current content showing up as a normal result, with a modern cache, and the same page showing up in search results when you search for words that used to be on the page but are no longer so, but this time the result is marked as supplemental, and links through to a cache from somewhere from 9 months to more than 2 years old.

What is very strange to me is that both Supplemental and normal pages are listed on the same search with identical cache dates. I am going to forget about it as it is so trivial.

Is the URL exactly the same, or is one with the www and one without, or is one with a trailing / and one without, or is one http and the other https, or is it that one is / and one is /index.html, or is it really absolutely exactly the same?

And exactly the same for me. One is attached to the other.

I have a page which has something peculiar going on as well. One is listed as supplemental as:

www.mysite.com/this_page

The real page is listed as:

www.mysite.com/this_page.html

The "html" is missing in the supplemental listing.

This page was also the victim of what may have been an attempted hijack about a year (or more) ago as it was linked on someone elses site using a 301 redirect.

So far, it has not had any affect on the popularity of my real page, but it is something which niggles at me now and again. I just don't like seeing it listed that way.

A 301 redirect pointing at you is harmless from the point of view of your content being indexed as if it were located at their URL.

A 302 redirect like that, however, could have caused you problems last year.

Yes, of course you are right. It was/is a 302.
