Major keyword ranking is dropping by 5-6 positions every day

There is a sudden drop in my website rankings in Google. We were in top 15 for the major keyword for last 1 year, but suddenly we find ourselves going down by 5-6 positions everyday.

My website has a well maintained forum so the content gets updated regularly.

I am just not able to figure out the possible reason. What should I do to regain my rankings?

Yes i have seen in last 3-4 days. ranking updating daily basis.

lohia, if I understand you correctly, you are describing something I have never seen or heard of. Please confirm -- every day you see your rankings drop further, 5 or 6 places at a time?

If that's really the case, please tell us what you have already looked into. And also, how is your traffic doing from other keywords. If you are depending on just one search term for your website's health, that is a difficult and dangerous position to be in.

Two questions that would help:

1. What type of site is moving in front of you? Established sites that had been in the serps before and are gradually passing you, or sites you haven't noticed before (particularly spam sites). If the latter, some spammer might be targeting your niche pretty heavy and just riding a temporary wave of success.

2. Is your page getting a fresh cache each day as it moves down? Or is is moving down daily without a fresh cache from around the same time?

Yes that was the case...but now it seems that I have a fixed position but that too not in top 40.

I have other keywords which are ranking good, but that does not fetch me so much of traffic that main keyword did.

Most of the sites that are moving ahead of us dont seem to be spam sites, but there are many .co.uk sites ahaed of us.

Is your page getting a fresh cache each day as it moves down? Or is is moving down daily without a fresh cache from around the same time?

My page is not getting everyday, although google bots are visiting my site everyday (AW stats).
