Navigation links on unthemed pages

concerned about possible dilution of theming

I recently changed a previous template in our articles section for a client who wanted to use the new template, which has left side text links to major product categories in the website.

However, the left side links are not themed to what the article pages are about, and so essentially each single article page links (on the left side nav) so somewhat unthemed product topics.

I have considered adding nofollow to these links so that the marketing remains intact but the diluted theme links are not counted.

Am I thinking too much, will Google simply know this is part of the grand template and disregards those anyway?

Thanks in advance, any opinions are welcome.

I'm not sure I get the picture entirely, but essentially I would caution against over-thinking here, and see what Google does before blocking anything. Theming can be a good tool for us to think about organizing a site, but I'm not so sure that it actually plays an active part in the Google algo.
